"Economics? What's that, like cooking and stuff?"
Sometimes, it becomes so astoundingly simple to see the bigger picture that it become overwelmingly depressing. What's the point in all the fuss and worry, because I know that at the end of it, I will get a degree of some description. The problem is, with every module seeming to bend over backwards to give us marks wherever it is deemed possible, you'd have to be downright stupid or ridiculously lazy to not pass. In the event of that, I'd be the latter.
"What is she doing after she graduates this summer?"
"She studying psychology"
"Oh, she's going on to further study...?"
"No, she studies psychology. That's synonymous with the phrase "she doesn't know what she wants to do with her life"
Science is easy if you know how. Arts is easy if you enjoy it. It may be making generalisations, but that's how I see it. Previous discussions have covered the fact that, while it's deemed "easier" to pass in arts subjects, it's harder to do really well, whereas with science, it's "harder" to pass, but easier to do well, due to the fact that if you know the answer, it'll definitely be right. The whole objective vs. subjective marking that is the core difference between the two strands of degree disciplines as I make sense of it.
Considering the concept from a wider perspective, I know, it's not really about the assessment factor, but what I genuinely learn from it and the enjoyment and satisfaction through doing so. The learning is in the journey.
It's been a dull and lonely day.

ReplyDeleteThat, and study style (*insert grumble about timetable here*). But I'm best on a Science course, I think, for all it was a close call at the time.
Revision sucks. I haven't done enough today. Thing is, Saturday tends to be my day off - and now that lectures have finally finished, that's a dangerous line to go down.
I wholeheartedly approve of the Jukebox for this entry (seeing Mark Knopfler, the guitarist/singer/songwriter from Dire Straits [for the second time] in a few weeks. Ridiculously excited :D)

Yeah, I know what you mean. Although sadly, most of our modules dont seem to be willing to bend over backwards to give us marks, we sadly have to learn stuff for them. Crazy talk, I know...
I've done no work today. I think I only got up at like half 1 (oops). Thing is, I'm unlikely to do any for the next 2 days, cos tomorrow theres racing on (BTCC, and all the support races! And at a decent circuit again, so it should be good). So thats my afternoon gone. And monday I'm going to Bristol for some thing at my youngest brother's school.
I should probably do something later, thinking about it. Meh.
