Waiting Game

Today, I have been patient.

It pays to be patient; patience is a virtue; good things come to those who wait and all that. There's a problem with patience though, when waiting begins to take over your life. When a person fails to realise than while later is sometimes better than never, sometimes it's better to stop waiting and start acting.

The problem is not with patience itself, particulary. Sure, there could be pleasure in perseverance, taking time to reach a point, not rushing in too fast, but after a while, the fun of the event is lost in the anticipation. Spending all this time waiting, and then the reality rarely lives up to the expectation. Feeding a fantasy a little at a time, believing you're getting somewhere, while knowing all along that each exchange only leaves you back at square one, waiting for the change, hoping it will come around soon. Live for the moment, not for the future.

Cease becoming, my friends, and begin to be

  1. How much of human life is lost in waiting, I wonder. It's a bit of a con really, we spend all out time waiting and waiting and then we pass the point where we could have done something.

"Waiting is a trap. There will always be reasons to wait. The truth is, there are only two things in life, reasons and results, and reasons simply don't count." Sums up my point nicely.

  2. You've written quite a few things lately that I've thought "yup, know what you mean", but I've refrained from commenting cos... well "yup, know what you mean" isnt exactly profound, is it? :-p

Anyway, yup, know what you mean :-)
