Chapter 21

Today, I have started a blog.

There are two main reasons people choose to do so:
1. Self-indulgence
2. Public Interest

I suppose this is a mix of both. A release for me, mainly. An insight for you, marginally. 'You' being, of course, any people who will come aclicking to my space. Because there's someone out there, isn't there, isn't there...?

...is there?

  1. Hello.

New starts are good. I'm contemplating start afresh myself. Not sure why. Actually, I think I am. It's the new-stage-of-my-life thing. Probably leave it 'til next vacation.

Hope you get on well with things here. I'll be popping by.

    Iain.

  2. Hmm, hello.
    This confuses me.
But I like the layout a lot...
Maybe I'll start one and just keep the old one for nostalgic reasons.
Then at least people couldn't see the anguished 15-year-old blogs...

  3. Is it still a mix of both?

  4. Always. In varying proportions. Why, do you think otherwise? Pray share...

  5. Well... times change, people change. Just curious :)

  6. Well they're quite vague specifications, really. The essence of personal blogging is talking about your thoughts in a place where other people can read them, which is summed up in the points as written and continues to apply to most cases in some way or another. The content or intent may vary, but the sentiment tends to remain the same.

But there's probably a reason you came way back here to say that and probably a reason you chose to comment as Anonymous. I would like to know either of these reasons and I'm interested to hear how you think I've/the blog's changed, since you clearly believe there's a difference?

  7. I always choose to comment as Anonymous. I hope there is no mistaken identity situations going on here. Besides, I think you prefer me to be somewhat anonymous.

And you're over-thinking. Finishing your degree is a large chapter of your life over with; it's never a bad thing to re-evaluate different aspects.

If I ever blogged for public internet I would have to give up. I'm not sure if a core group of people can really be deemed as the public, anyway. Do you ever wish more people came and read what you write, or are you happy with the same old? When you started your blog did you expect that? I'm just curious.

  8. Oh, there was a little mistake there, wasn't there? Well, it does bump up the comment count somewhat. Try not to get over-excited ;)

  9. I have an email address, you know. I'm happy to continue this exchange elsewhere.

Also, you say you use Anonymous like there's only one person it could be. How am I supposed to know when you don't reveal your identity?! Never assume, eh.

When I say public interest I mean "those who will read this" and if I wasn't blogging for people to read, I might as well be writing a personal journal. I like that I have a few people who read it, and if more people did, I'm sure I'd change what or how I write.

I'm not sure where my degree comes into it, but essentially - YES IT IS A MIX OF BOTH IN VARYING AMOUNTS.

    Talk about over-thinking, eh!?!

  10. I wonder what the people who keep physical diaries actually do with them year in, year out as they fill one and move onto another. When a person has one they can keep it hidden, I suppose, but five years in? Ten? A life-time? Devoting a shelf to them would just be weird and hardly private, and it seems a shame (and pointless) to burn the book(s) or other destructive means.

A rather non-essential question but a valid one nonetheless.

  11. It was valid, y'know.

  12. Where the bloody hell is my clearly promised banana blog?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I wrote it. But then it seemed a bit pointless to post. After all, I'm frequently reminded that "You blog too much, y'know"

    ReplyDelete
  14. Bananas are important though. You've gone through life and not known this yet? If anything I would praise such a blog.

  15. I wanted to write something profound here, or something secret, or something that really mattered, but I just can't... So have this comment instead, which shows I'm still shuffling around, at least, and still thinking of you.

  16. Tiem for China food.

  17. Do you feel nearly three and a half years older?

  18. "Do you feel nearly three and a half years older?"

Well, do you? It's an interesting point. How has your life changed? How has your mind changed? Body? Soul? Can this sort of thing really be pinpointed? Perhaps in a more vague way; maybe it needs others to answer for you.

And how about those around you, both dear and less so - do you sense changes?

    xx
