Pooh Sticks

"When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it."

Once upon a time, a very long time ago now, about last Friday, I sat up for a long while with a boy and a beer and we chatted about cake and earrings and other Nice Things. I was sad and he was friendly and we talked in a way we hadn't before. We talked in a way we haven't since then and I'm not sure we ever will again. For shame

So. I pinpoint hopes on the memories of an idle Friday, when I know, in all truthfulness, that nothing more can come of it. But there's a part of my mind that separates the logical knowledge from the irrational possibility and it's hard to give the former precedence when the latter is so much more inviting.

“Rivers know this: there is no hurry.
We shall get there some day."

  1. Supposing a tree fell down when you were underneath it?

    Supposing it didn't.
